“A dizzying and rapturous noir melodrama”
One of Almodóvar’s darker cinematic creations, La Mala Educación (Bad Education) explores themes of love, abuse and murder. Through the reuniting of childhood friends, we look back to their childhood growing up under the watchful eyes of Catholic priests.
In Spanish with English subtitles.
The Child in Spanish and Latin American Cinema
After the success of last year’s Pedro Almodóvar Day held in collaboration with Exeter University, we are very pleased to announce a special day of Spanish language films. We are showing three films that showcase the child protagonist in films from Spain and Latin America.
Presented in collaboration with the Departments of Modern Languages and Film Studies at the University of Exeter, the films will be introduced by Professor Sally Faulkner (Head of Modern Languages and Professor of Hispanic Studies), Dr Natalia Pinazza (Lecturer in Portuguese Studies at the University of Exeter), and Rachel Beaney (PGR student at the University of Exeter).
There will be a Q&A following each screening. All screenings have English subtitles.
Thank you to South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership for their support.
